Women's Lacrosse Clashes with Manhattan

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Niagara women’s lacrosse team begins its three-game road trip with a conference matchup against the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m.

The Purple Eagles (3-7; 0-3 MAAC) head into this weekend’s contest after dropping a close 13-11 decision to the Siena Saints.  Senior Emily French tallied four goals for her eighth game this season where she has scored two or more tallies. 

French continues to lead the team in goals (26) and points (30), while junior Fran Pollastro has contributed offensively with 17 goals, five assists and 22 points.  Freshman Carrie-Jo Farrugia  is tied for third on the team in goals (10) and is tops on the Purple Eagles in assists with 10. 

Defender Taryn Burkholder has been solid in the back for Niagara, leading the Purple Eagles in forced turnovers (13) and is second on the team in groundballs (24).

The Jaspers (3-8; 1-2 MAAC) are coming off a conference loss to the first place Fairfield Stags.  Manhattan gets offensive contributions from Chrissy Gutenberger (34-4-38) and Donna Jo DiNorcia (19-4-23). 

Goaltender Christina Fiorinelli and midfielder Clare Kerrisk have been strong for Jaspers, with Fiorinelli tops on the team in groundballs (36) and second on the team in forced turnovers (10).  Kerisk is second on the team in groundballs (22), and forced turnovers (12).
