St. Bonaventure Edges Women's Lacrosse, 15-11

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The women’s lacrosse team (0-3; 0-0 MAAC) dropped a 15-11 decision to the St. Bonaventure Bonnies (1-0; 0-0 A10) on Wednesday evening at Niagara Field.

"This loss most certainly was not as disheartening as the last one," head coach Amber Hill said.  "We were able to see what different players are able to do in place of a lot of injured ones, and we were able to spotlight areas of improvement and areas where we're still lacking."  

The Bonnies bolted out to a 2-0 lead off goals from Daisy Timlin and Cara Callahan, before sophomore Paige Matecki put Niagara on the board, with a nice feed from senior Lauren Bowen

St. Bonaventure continued to have the upper hand on Niagara on the scoreboard until almost midway through the opening frame when Bowen made it a 6-6 game off an assist from freshman Savannah Pearce.  The Bonnies would go on a 4-1 run to end the first half, leaving a three-goal deficit to overcome for the Purple Eagles. 

Senior Daniella Drabin would begin scoring for St. Bonaventure to open the second stanza, giving the Bonnies an 11-7 lead, but Niagara would quickly respond as senior Lisa Chute tallied her first goal of the season.

The Bonnies tallied the next two goals, but the Purple Eagles continued to apply pressure as freshman Brittany Delano and Pearce got on the board for Niagara.  St. Bonaventure matched each of Niagara's goals however to solidify the win.

"This team has a lot of heart and we never put our heads down," added Hill.  We're going to push forward and we look to play Saturday with a more healthier team with a more impenetrable defensive unit and an attack that can execute well."

Pearce finished the game with two goals and an assist while Emily French, Matecki and Pierce each finished the game with two goals.  Bowen had a three point night with a goal and two assists and senior Caitlin Sacco contributed two helpers. 

Sophomore goaltender Kaitlin Sorgi made six saves in net for the Purple Eagles. 
 
The Purple Eagles continue their four-game home stand against Gannon on Saturday, March 10 at Niagara Field.  Action is set to being at 2 p.m.
