Kettrick Earns Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Senior Aubrey Kettrick has been named Student-Athlete of the Week after breaking five individual NU records in the pool and helping the Purps break a pair of relays records as well at the Zippy Invitational.

During the first day in the pool, Kettrick broke two NU records starting off with the 50-yard freestyle.  The senior swam the event in 24.13 during the preliminary round, breaking the 2005 record set by Traci Liberi (24.42.  Kettrick also added a pair of impressive times in the relays with a 23.30 and 24.26 for the three fastest 50-yard freestyles in Niagara history.

Kettrick capped off the day with a time of 59.07 in the 100-yard butterfly time trial, breaking the Niagara record set by Lindsey Jackson in 2011 (59.43).

The following day, the Watertown, N.Y. native continued her dominance in the pool by breaking her own Niagara record, this time in the 200-yard freestyle.  Her time of 1:52.96 placed her in fourth, and broke the record time set in 2011 of 1:53.17. 

Kettrick concluded the invitational breaking the 100-yard freestyle record during the preliminary round.  Kettrick clocked in at 52.15, breaking the previous record of 52.72 earned by Ashley Clingersmith in 2009.  She swam the event final in 52.33 to earn a seventh place finish. 

In relay action, Kettrick combined with her teammates in the 200-yard freestyle for a ninth place finish with a time of 1:38.23 to break the previous NU record achieved in 2010 (1:50.95).   She also helped the 400-yard freestyle relay team break the NU record achieved in 2010 after clocking in at 3:36.13.  

Kettrick and the Purple Eagles are back in the pool after the New Year when Niagara meets Buffalo on Jan. 12.
