NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara hockey team is in the national spotlight for the third straight week after completing a weekend sweep of Atlantic Hockey rival Sacred Heart to keep the nation’s longest active unbeaten streak of 11 games alive.
After sitting two straight weeks in the No. 20 spot on the USCHO.com Division I Poll, the Purple Eagles jumped up to the 18
th position for the first time since Oct. 25, 2007. This is the team’s highest ranking since the 2007-08 season when NU earned a 17
th spot for two straight weeks (Nov. 19 & Nov. 26). The USA Today has the Purps among the top receiving votes, nearly breaking into the top 15 in the country with nine votes.
The NCAA Tournament Pairwise Comparison Ratings has the Purps tied at No. 16 with Ohio State after NU took care of business with four home points against the Pioneers to remain undefeated in conference play.
The Purple Eagles now look to AHA opponent RIT for their final home game of the 2012 portion of the schedule. Niagara then travels to Bowling Green for a game on Dec. 29 before returning to Dwyer to host Air Force in the first game of the New Year.
