Niagara Continues AHA Play Against Connecticut

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. –  The Niagara men’s hockey team returns to Dwyer Arena this weekend after a four-game road trip to continue Atlantic Hockey play against the UConn Huskies. 

NU welcomes the Huskies on Friday, Nov. 2, and wraps up the two-game series the following day.  The puck is schedule to drop at 7:05 p.m. both evenings.

How To Catch The Game
Niagara’s game versus UConn will be broadcasted live on WJJL 1440 AM and PurpleEagles.com, with Paul Hamilton on call for Friday's contest, and Jeremy White on the call for Saturday's game.  Live stats for both contests against UConn will be available.  To access live stats, please click on the appropriate link above.
 
Last Time Out 
The Purple Eagles earned a hard fought 1-0-1 mark against Clarkson last weekend.  Niagara blanked the Golden Knights on Friday, 2-0 with tallies from Dan Kolenda and Marc Zanette.   The following day, the Purps battled back from a three-goal deficit to draw Clarkson, 4-4.  Ryan Murphy netted two goals, with Mike Benedict and Chris Lochner adding to the score sheet. 
 
Carsen Chubak pushed aside 67 shots in 117 minutes of play, including a career-high 44 saves during Friday’s victory. 
 
AHA Student-Athletes of the Year
During Saturday’s contest, the AHA will honor four Purple Eagles as Student-Athletes of the Year, after posting a 4.0 or better GPA during the 2011-12 season. 
 
Three of the four student-athletes are 2012 graduates--Chris Noonan, Robert Martini and Dan Baco.  The fourth honoree is junior Kevin Ryan.
 
Scouting The Huskies
UConn enters the weekend with a 0-2-1 record, and a 0-1-0 AHA record.
 
The Huskies are led by Jordan Sims (1-2-3), with Sean Ambrosie (1-1-2) and Bryant Harris (1-1-2) also contributing to the offense.
 
Bartus Garrett will likely be the starting goaltender for UConn.  The senior has pushed aside 116 shots thus far for a 2.60 goals-against average, and a .931 save percentage.   
 
Last Time vs. UConn
The Purple Eagles dropped two decisions to the Huskies last season, falling 4-2 on Jan. 6 before being blanked by UConn 2-0 the following day.
 
Isaac Kohls and Jason Beattie each got on the scoreboard for NU in the opening game of the series.  
 
Streaking Divy
Patrick Divjak is on a three-game point streak after contributing an assist in the last three contests, starting with the 3-3 draw to Michigan State on Oct. 20.
 
K-Ry Lends A Helping Hand
Junior Kevin Ryan has a team-leading six points in his last seven games, all coming off assists.  Four of those assists have been earned on the man-advantage. 
 
“Kol”ecting Points
Forward Dan Kolenda leads all rookies with two goals and a helper for three points.  His first career goal came during a 3-3 draw to Michigan State on Oct. 20.
 
Up Next For NU
The Purple Eagles begin a three-game road trip with a weekend series against Army on Friday, Nov. 9 and Saturday, Nov. 10.

The following Friday, Niagara takes a short trip to Buffalo, N.Y. to battle cross-town rival the Canisius Golden Griffins on Nov. 16.
