The Niagara Purple Eagles return to the Gallagher Center on Friday, Jan. 13 to host defending MAAC champions Saint Peter’s for a 9 p.m. tip-off.
Niagara went 1-2 during its three-game road trip since the last time the Purple Eagles played at home (Dec. 30). Freshman guards
Antoine Mason and
Juan'ya Green scored in double figures in all three games while averaging 14.7 and 14.3 points per game, respectively.
The Purple Eagles’ first home game of 2012 will be against the 2011 MAAC Tournament champions, Saint Peter’s (3-13, 2-3 MAAC). The Peacocks have won the last four meetings after Niagara won six straight in the series.
~ Juan’ya Green, who has scored in double figures in every game this season, is second amongst the nation’s freshmen and is 27th nationally in scoring with 19.1 points per game.
~ Green ranks in the top 10 in the conference in seven categories, including leading the MAAC in scoring, third in steals per game (1.7), fourth in assists per game (3.7) and fifth free throw percentage (82.0).
~ Green is third all-time in freshman scoring history at Niagara. He is 29 points away from passing Tyrone Lewis (‘10) for second place and needs 142 points to pass Garry Jordan (‘81) for most points by a freshman.

Malcolm Lemmons and Green each had career-highs in rebounds at Siena. Lemmons had 10 boards while Green recorded eight caroms.
~ The freshman/sophomore class account for 89 percent of the scoring.
~ The Purple Eagles’ four-game losing streak to Saint Peter’s is tied for the longest in series history. NU lost four straight from Dec. 30, 1986-Dec. 2, 1990.
~ Niagara is 5-0 at home against a defending MAAC champion since 2005 - defeated Manhattan in 2005, Iona in 2007 and Siena in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Green Amongst Nation’s Top Scorers
Juan’ya Green is averaging 19.1 points per game to rank tied for 27th in the nation in scoring and is second amongst freshmen.
Green Eyeing Freshman Records
Juan’ya Green is on pace to set the Niagara freshman scoring record which is currently held by Garry Jordan who scored 467 points during the 1977-78 season. Green has 325 points on the season and needs to average at least 10 points per game for the rest of the season. Green needs 74 field goals to break Jordan’s freshman field goals record (185).

Saint Peter’s Peacocks (3-13, 2-3 MAAC)
Saint Peter’s has lost nine of its last 10 games with the lone win coming against Canisius on Jan. 5. Darius Conley leads the team with 11.7 ppg and 7.9 rpg. Brandon Hall leads the conference with 2.0 steals per game.
Against the Saint Peter’s (Niagara leads 42-28)
Niagara’s 42 wins are fourth most against a conference opponent. The Purple Eagles have had winning streaks of 12 games (2000-05) and six games (2006-09), but have lost the last four meetings which ties their longest losing streak in the series (Dec. 1986-Feb. 1990).
