BUFFALO, N.Y. - Senior Ian O'Rourke of the Niagara swimming and diving team capped off another great Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship meet by claiming the 2011 MAAC Championship in the one-meter diving event on Saturday night. O'Rourke won the three-meter diving contest on Thursday.
O'Rourke was also named Most Outstanding Diver of the meet, after winning the one-meter diving event with a score of 314. 40, over 26 points better than his nearest competitor. O'Rourke has now swept both diving championships and Most Outstanding Diver honors in the last two MAAC Championship meets that he has competed in, 2009 and 2011.
The men's team finished the three-day competition in seventh place out of nine teams, with 284 points. Senior Evinn Drusys took seventh place in the 100 yard free event, clocking in with a time of 47.40.
The women's team finished the three-day competition in seventh place ouf ot 10 teams, with 258.5 points. Sophomore Julia Bulmahn broke her own record from last season in the 200 yard backstroke, taking 13th place with a time of 2:09.65.
The Purple Eagles will conclude the 2010-11 season in Pittsburgh, Pa. for the 2011 ECAC Championships, starting on Friday, Feb. 25.
