Niagara continues its season against Western New York rival RIT on Saturday night, marking the team’s first conference game of the season.

Caging The Tigers
Since Jan. 16, 1997, Niagara is 8-0-3 against RIT. Niagara has outscored RIT 46-27 in its last 11 meetings, while outscoring the Tigers 34-16 in the eight wins. Coach Dave Burkholder is now 6-0-2 against his alma mater.
Niagara hasn’t dropped a contest to RIT since Feb. 8, 1996, a 4-3 decision at Ritter Arena. As of Oct. 8, it has been 5,722 days since RIT defeated Niagara.
Getting Off On The Right Foot
Niagara’s game against RIT marks the first time the Purple Eagles have begun conference play on the road since the 2007-08 season, when Niagara defeated Bemidji State 3-2 on Nov. 2, 2007.
Since the 2005-06 season, Niagara is 5-1-0 in conference openers, outscoring its foes by a 25-17 margin.
Tough Schedule
Niagara takes on three teams earning a spot on the preseason rankings (USCHO/USA Today), playing No. 6/9 Michigan, No. 11 Union and No. 20 Cornell. Niagara also has games schedule against teams receiving votes; Air Force, Holy Cross, Minnesota, Northeastern, Princeton and RIT.
Are We There Yet?
Niagara will head on a three-game road trip, taking on Michigan, RIT and Air Force before hosting Union in the home opener. Niagara would have traveled 3,950 miles before hosting a home game.
