Cross Country Competes At MAAC Championships

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Niagara men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2011 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship meet on Friday afternoon, with the men's team taking ninth place out of 10 teams, while the women's team took seventh place out of 10 teams.

The women's team was led once again by sophomore Kim Vona, finishing in 20th place out of a field of 116 runners, finishing the 6k course in a time of 23:00. Behind Vona was sophomore Stephanie Schmidt in 42nd place (24:23) and Lindsey Phillips in 48th place (24:51).

The women's team accumulated 229 points, ahead of rivals Siena, Manhattan and Saint Peter's. 

The men's team was led by Vincent Donner finishing in 40th place in a field of 130 runners, finishing the 8k course in a time of 27:01. A place behind Donner was teammate Sam Reedy(27:02), while Nick Orlowski finished in 50th place overall (27:27).

The men's team picked up 249 points and finished ahead of Saint Peter's.

The Purple Eagles will wrap up the 2011 season at the 2011 NCAA Northeast Regionals in two weeks, hosted by Buffalo.
