Fairfield Defeats Women's Lacrosse, 21-8

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara women's lacrosse team (1-7, 0-2 MAAC) fell to the visiting Fairfield Stags (8-4, 2-0 MAAC) by the final score of 21-8 at a sunny Niagara Field on Sunday afternoon.

Fairfield took control of the game early, utilizing a 9-1 run to take an eight goal lead halfway through the period. The Purple Eagles matched the Stags goal for goal in final 10 minutes of the opening half, on goals by Rianne Farrugia, Emily Chayka and Emily French.

After Lauren Bowen opened up the second half with a goal about a minute in, the Stags would go on a 7-0 run to take a commanding 19-5 lead. Fran Pollastro, Chayka and Formato would score Niagara's three final goals.

Formato led the team with four points (2-2-4), while Leigh Downing earned three assists and Chayka netted a pair of goals.

The Purple Eagles wrap up the home portion of their 2010 schedule when they host the Siena Saints on Sunday, April 18 at noon.
