Women's Lacrosse Drops Close Decision To Buffalo State

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara women's lacrosse team (0-3, 0-0 MAAC) scored six straight goals to rally back into the game, but ultimately fell to the Buffalo State Bengals (3-0) at Niagara Field on Monday afternoon by a final score of 10-8.

Down 10-2 in the second half, Lauren Bowen scored her first of two goals in the game with 18:44 remaining to spark a 6-0 run. Caitlin Sacco, Leigh Downing, Nicole Karek and Rianne Farrugia each added a goal, while Bowen added her second of the game to put Niagara within two goals with eight minutes left in the game, but the Purple Eagles would come no closer.

The game started slowly, with the first goal coming nearly six and a half minutes in by the Bengals. Buffalo State built up a 3-0 lead until goals from Emily French and Farrugia brought Niagara within one late in the first half. Kate Henderson's goal with eight minutes left in the first half sparked a 7-0 run for the Bengals, placing them ahead 10-2 by the 22:09 mark of the second stanza.

Farrugia led the team with two goals and an assist for three points, while Bowen added two goals and Downing notched a goal and an assist.

The Purple Eagles are back in action on Wednesday afternoon, hosting LeMoyne at 4 p.m. at Niagara Field.
