Men's Hockey Ties Robert Morris, 4-4

Sam Goodwin

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - Sam Goodwin's  wraparound goal with 1:29 left in the third period made sure that the Niagara men's hockey team (7-15-4, 2-6-2 CHA) kept its unbeaten streak on Wednesday alive, playing to a 4-4 tie with the visiting Robert Morris (8-14-5, 4-5-3 CHA) at Dwyer Arena.

With a last effort wrap-around effort, Goodwin tied the game at 18:31 in the final frame to push the game into overtime. Niagara had several opportunities in the extra session, but they just couldn't beat Colonials netminder Brooks Ostergard. Niagara is now 3-0-1 in Wednesday games during it's 14-year history, with two of those games coming against the Colonials.

"Both teams looked tired," head coach Dave Burkholder said. "For us to come back and salvage a point is big. Goodie made the play when we needed it."

Robert Morris may have lit the lamp first with a goal at 11:27 into the first period, however two consecutive Purple Eagle goals gave Niagara a 2-1 advantage heading into the second.

Defenseman Tyler Gotto gave Niagara their first notch on the score board with an assist from freshman Marc Zanette. Gotto and Zanette have been a scoring tandem within the CHA conference with Gotto registering a point in six of his last seven conference games and Zanette scoring seven points in his last five CHA contests.

Chris Moran gave Niagara the lead heading into second frame with an unassisted goal at 19:38 in the first.  Moran has scored against the Colonials in all four of their match-ups this season.

Robert Morris came back to register three goals in the second giving them a 4-3 lead heading into the final stanza. Ryan Olidis scored the lone Purple Eagle powerplay goal at 5:08 from Moran and David Ross. Moran's assist marked his seventh multiple point game of the year while placing him one shy of tying Niagara's career assist leader Barret Ehgoetz with 95.

Goaltender Adam Avramenko stepped in for Chris Noonan at the beginning of the third, denying a total of nine shots on goal.  Noonan was pulled after allowing four goals on 18 shots.

The Purple Eagles continue their three-game homestand on Friday, Feb. 12, when the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers visit Dwyer Arena.
