BALTIMORE, Md. - The Niagara women's swimming & diving team broke three more school records on day two of the 2010 MAAC Championships, bringing the total of broken records during the championship event up to eight.
The women's team now sits in fifth place with 262 points after strong efforts from Lindsey Jackson, Julia Bulmahn, Stephanie Gartley, Aubrey Kettrick, Dana Vernal and Ashley Clingersmith. The 800 yard freestyle relay team of Vernal, Jackson, Kettrick and Clingersmith smashed the old record set earlier in the season by nearly six seconds, finishing in fourth place with a time of 7:55.15.
The 200 yard medley relay record also fell, with Bulmahn, Gartley, Jackson and Kettrick combining for a sixth place finish, with a time of 1:51.24. Jackson broke her own record in the 400 IM, finishing fourth overall in a time of 4:34.56.
The divers also saw a solid day, as Faith O'Malley (sixth), Ashley Jones (seventh) and Laura Sadler (ninth) all finished in the top-10 of the standings for the three-meter diving event.
The men's team now sits in eighth place with 171.5 points. Evinn Drusys finished in sixth place in the 100 yard butterfly event with a time of 51.47. Jon Matchette finished the 100 yard backstroke event in eighth place, with a time of 53.93.
The Purple Eagles will hit the pool once more this weekend when they finish up competition at the 2010 MAAC Championships on Saturday.
