DETROIT – The Niagara men’s basketball team fell to the Albany Great Danes, 75-65, in its second game of its three-game Legends Classic weekend on Saturday at Calihan Hall.
Niagara (2-3) had three Purple Eagles scoring in double-figures in the defeat. Junior Kashief Edwards led Niagara with 19 points and had eight rebounds, freshman Malcolm Lemmons set a new career-high with 15 points and grabbed six boards and senior Anthony Nelson had season-highs with 11 points, eight boards and seven assists.
“We lost the game in the last four minutes of the first half,” head coach Joe Mihalich said. “We played well for 15 minutes in the first half, but we got a little satisfied. We learned the hard way tonight that when you get satisfied it may not be enough to get the win.”
The Purple Eagles led for most of the first half, until Albany (2-5) surged to take a 36-33 halftime lead. NU cut the Great Danes lead to 45-43 with 14 minutes remaining, but Albany would go on a 20-8 run mostly due to a hot shooting night from guard Logan Aronhalt who finished with a game-high 30 points and was 6-for-9 from behind the arc.
