Loyola Downs Men's Soccer, 1-0

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara men's soccer team (4-9-2, 2-3-1 MAAC) gave the visiting Loyola Greyhounds (8-3-2, 4-0-1 MAAC) a run for their money, but ultimately fell by a 1-0 score in front of 325 fans on Senior Day at Niagara Field on Sunday afternoon.

Glenn Leitch netted the game-winning goal with the second half barely two minutes old. Off of a corner kick, Leitch found the loose ball in the box and kicked it past senior Niagara goalkeeper Christopher Skelton for the decisive goal.

"I felt we dominated play during the first 45 minutes," head Niagara men's soccer coach Dermot McGrane said. "But against a team like Loyola, you need to put away chances when you get them."

The Purple Eagles tested Loyola goalkeeper Kyle Wittman early and often, peppering the goalie with seven shots in the first half, but goose eggs remained on the scoreboard. Niagara would head into the half scoreless against Loyola, despite having a decided 11-6 total shots advantage on the Greyhounds.

Loyola turned up the heat in the second half, keeping Niagara off balance with five corner kicks. Niagara was limited in the second half to just one of their nine shots on target.

The Purple Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 30, when they visit cross-town rival Canisius in a must-win game at 7 p.m.
