NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - Two second-half goals by junior Carl Haworth helped to push the Niagara men's soccer team (2-5-1, 0-0-0 MAAC) past the Buffalo Bulls (4-5-0, 1-0-0 MAAC) on Friday night in front of 315 fans at Niagara Field.
The Purple Eagles are now 3-0-3 against Buffalo in the last six games played on Niagara's campus. The Bulls haven't defeated Niagara on Monteagle Ridge since 1998.
Down 2-1 to open the second half, Haworth stepped up his offensive play. Haworth would head in the game-winning goal in the 75th minute, off of a cross from junior Ben Thorne.
"The team showed great character to battle back in the game against a good Buffalo team," head men's soccer coach Dermot McGrane said. "Tonight's game was the very first game that we had a completely healthy team, which gave us plenty of options."
Buffalo opened scoring in the 19th minute, when Mike Unwin ripped a shot from just outside the box that beat Purple Eagle goalkeeper Christopher Skelton.Senior Mike Malone woule tie the game for the Purple Eagles three minutes later, but the Bulls would take a 2-1 lead just before the half, off the foot of Juha Kaartoluoma.
