BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Niagara women's lacrosse team (2-2; 0-0 MAAC) couldn't hold off a late surge from the Buffalo State Bengals (2-1), with the home team taking home a 13-12 victory on Tuesday afternoon.
After being down the whole game up to that point, the Purple Eagles used a 5-0 run to take a 9-7 lead early in the second half. The two teams would continue to battle, with junior Courtney Formato (Lancaster, N.Y.) tying the game at 11 with 11 minutes left. The Bengals would score two of the game's final three goals to ice the victory.
The Bengals started the game on a 3-0 run, before senior Erralyn Thomas (Ducan, B.C.) scored the first of her team-high five goals to bring the Purple Eagles within two. Senior Vanessa Schultz (Clarence, N.Y.) added both of her goals in the first half, bringing Niagara within one at the half, 7-6.
Senior Whitney Gill (Canandaigua, N.Y.) made 10 saves in the loss.
The Purple Eagles are back in action on Thursday, hosting the St.Francis (Pa.) Red Flash at 4 p.m.
