NIAGARA UNIV. N.Y. - The women’s lacrosse team (2-6, 0-2) fell to the St. Bonaventure Bonnies (3-8, 1-3) 18-5 Wednesday afternoon in its final non-conference game of the season. Niagara was outscored 13-2 in the first stanza but held the Bonnies to scoring only five goals in the second half.
While Niagara allowed 13 goals in the first half, St. Bonaventure was able to record seven consecutive goals before the Purple Eagles banked a goal at 12:21 when Erralyn Thomas (Duncan, B.C.) scored off a free-position shot on Eboni Preston. The Bonnies went on to score six additional goals in the first stanza while Leigh Downing (Auburn, N.Y.) also picked up a goal for the Purple Eagles.
St. Bonaventure continued to score five more goals in the first half while Niagara picked up three. Courtney Formato (Lancaster, N.Y.) picked up all three goals in the second for the Purple Eagles while Downing picked up one assist.
In net for Niagara was Whitney Gill (Canadaigua, N.Y.) who made 11 saves for the Purple Eagles. Niagara had 22 shots on the contest.
Niagara returns to the conference circuit on Friday when it hosts MAAC opponent Fairfield at 4 p.m. on the Niagara Field.
