Lady Laxers Fall to Binghamton

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Niagara was tied at the half, but ultimately couldn't keep up as they dropped a 13-5 decision to the visiting Binghamton Bearcats at Nichols Field on Wednesday afternoon. The setback places Niagara at 2-3 on the season.

Binghamton was first on the board scoring just over five minutes into the first half with Leanne Musso giving the Bearcats their first marker. Niagara answered about two minutes later with a goal by Erralyn Thomas (Ducan, B.C.) to tie the game. Binghamton then added another goal for a 2-1 lead. Vanessa Schultz (Clarence, N.Y.) then scored two consecutive goals for the Purple Eagles, giving Niagara its first lead of the night, at 3-2.

Binghamton then tied up the game at three off a goal by Erica Hill. Thomas then won the lead back for Niagara on her second goal, which Christina Jablonski (Troy, Mich.) helped out on. Binghamton then marked two more goals while Alison Velario (Geneva, N.Y.) scored one to end the half tied at five.

Niagara was held scoreless in the second half, as they were outscored 8-0 in the final frame. The Purple Eagles ultimately fell by a 13-5 margin.

Whitney Gill (Canadaigua, N.Y.)  made 13 saves for the Purple Eagles, while Sandra Alvarez stopped 9 shots for the Bearcats.

Niagara head back to the field when it takes on Lemoyne at 5:00 p.m on Friday at Nichols High School.
