Women's Lacrosse Drops 19-2 to Marist

NIAGARA UNIV. N.Y. - The Niagara women's lacrosse team (2-8, 0-3) was defeated by the visiting Marist Red Foxes (7-6, 4-1) 19-2 on Sunday, in its final home game of the 2007-08 season.

The first three minutes of the game were scoreless for both sides before marist marked a goal at 26:51. Niagara answered just over a minute later. Rianne Farrugia (Elbridge, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1-1. Marist went on to score 12 more goals in the first half to give the Red Foxes a 13-1 lead.

Niagara tallied one additional goal in the second half, Leigh Downing (Auburn, N.Y.) scored off a pass from Farrugia.  Marist picked up six goals in the second half.

In net for Niagara was Whitney Gill (Canadaigua, N.Y.) who made 12 saves for the Purple Eagles. Niagara took seven shots on the contest.

Niagara is back in action on Wednesday when the Purple Eagles travel to cross-town rival Canisius College to continue conference action, and play the next portion of the Battle of the Bridge contest.
