Lacrosse Drops St.Francis 20-6

Vanessa Schultz

LORETTO, PA. – A five goal performance by Erralyn Thomas (Ducan, B.C.) and a four goal performance from Vanessa Schultz (Clarence, N.Y.) helped to propel the Niagara University lacrosse team to a 20-6 victory over the St.Francis Red Flash on Monday afternoon. The win places the Purple Eagles at 2-1 on the season.

Head coach Mike Mansour was extremely pleased about the offensive output for his club today.

"Vanessa and Erralyn had big offensive performances that set the tone for the day," stated Mansour. "On the other half of things, Emma-Lee was strong at mid, controlling the ball rather well."

Emma-Lee Harrison (Buckhorn, Ont.) started the game off right for the Purple Eagles, scoring the first two goals of the game to put Niagara out in front 2-0. After a St.Francis goal made it 4-1, Harrison scored her third of the game to make it 5-1, placing her in a tie with Lindsay Hamann for fifth on Niagara’s All-Time Scoring list.

After the Red Flash made it 5-2, Niagara scored 11 consecutive goals to end the first half and start the second. Thomas scored four of her goals, while Schultz added three of hers during this strong offensive session for the Purple Eagles. The Red Flash would break up Niagara’s offensive output to make it 16-3, but the Purple Eagles kept strong. Schultz would score two more times, while Courtney Formato (Lancaster, N.Y.) added two goals to finish the route for the Purple Eagles.

Thomas ended with five goals and an assist, while Schultz had four goals, Harrison netted three goals and Formato added two goals and an assist.

The Purple Eagles take to the field again on Monday, March 24th as they travel to take on Gannon at 7 p.m.
