BALTIMORE, Md. - Senior Pat Garvey (Pine Bush, N.Y.) became a two-time MAAC Champion on Saturday night, winning the 100-yard freestyle event with another Niagara school record. Garvey, who won the 200 free on Friday night, touched the wall at 45.39, breaking his own record that he set earlier in the day.

The men's team finished fourth in the MAAC with a final score of 356, while the women came in fifth with 310 points.

The men's 400 free relay team also broke a Niagara record when they finished with a time of 3:08.29, three tenths of a second better than the old mark set in 1998. Garvey, Evinn Drusys (Yucaipa, Calif.), Zak Brown (Bakersfield, Calif.) and James Polito (Reading, Pa.) earned the record time.

With his new records in the evening session, Garvey has now set five new school marks this weekend alone. He broke the 50 free record twice, finishing second, the 200 free record twice, finishing first, and was a member of the 200 free relay that finished fourth.

Ashley Clingersmith (Niagara Fals, N.Y.) finished second in the 100 free with a time of 53.37, narrowly setting a new NU record. Traci Liberi, Niagara's last MAAC Champion before this weekend, holds the women's 100 free record at 53.32.

Other men's results from Saturday evening included a second-place finish by freshman Ian O'Rourke (Grand Island, N.Y.) in the 1-meter dive with a final of 280.75. Ryan O'Laughlin (Lewiston, N.Y.) finished seventh in the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.12, while Brown came in ninth in the mile with a 16:46.29.

Elizabeth Piggott (Staatsburg, N.Y.) finished eighth in the 100 free with a time of 54.61, while Hope Wiles (Baltimore, Md.) swam the mile in 18:03.07 to come in sixth. Dana Vernal (Milford, Conn.) tied the NU record in the 200 fly placing fifth with a time of 2:11.52.

The women's 400 free relay also broke a Niagara record, bring the weekend total to 12 records broken by the swimming program. Piggott, Mariah Glass (Oswego, N.Y.), Vernal and Clingersmith swam the race in 3:40.31 and finished sixth.
