Lacrosse Loses to Manhattan

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University lacrosse team (1-11-0, 0-7-0) gave up 10 second-half goals as it lost 19-9 to Manhattan College (5-10-0, 4-3-0) Sunday afternoon at Niagara Field.

The Purple Eagles were led offensively by junior Emma-Lee Harrison (Lakefield, Ont.) with three goals and two assists for five points. Senior Lindsay Hamann (Camillus, N.Y.) had three points on two goals and an assist, while freshman Leigh Downing (Auburn, N.Y.) connected on two goals.

Manhattan opened the scoring at 27:44 on Kaitlin McGorry’s first of three goals on the day. Hamann scored at 25:19 to tie the game, but the Jaspers rattled off two more goals for a 3-1 lead.

Harrison scored at 21:33, but Manhattan came back with five unanswered goals for an 8-2 with 5:27 left in the half.

Harrison’s second goal of the game came on a Hamann pass at 4:19, but the Jaspers closed the scoring with two goals for a 9-4 lead at halftime.

Manhattan opened the second half, scoring four of the first five goals, including two from Lauren Civardi. Sophomore Vanessa Schultz (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) and Downing scored to make it 13-6, but the Jaspers came back with three more goals for a 16-6 lead.

Harrison, Downing, freshman Courtney Formato (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) scored Niagara’s final three goals.

Senior Kristen Engel (Plainview, N.Y.) made 14 saves for the Purple Eagles, while Ashley Devins came up with 13 saves for the Jaspers.

Niagara plays its final regular-season game April 24 when it hosts Gannon University at 5 p.m. at Niagara Field.
