NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University lacrosse team (1-5) concludes a three-game road swing Wednesday when it meets Binghamton University (0-7) at noon at the East Gym Complex in Binghamton.
The Purple Eagles will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak and win their second game of the season. They dropped a 16-2 game at Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference leader Le Moyne College April 1.
All-MAAC candidate Emma-Lee Harrison (Lakefield, Ont.) continues to lead the Niagara offense. The junior attacker has a squad-leading 10 goals and 13 points. She has registered a point in all six of the Purple Eagle’s games this season.
Senior Lindsay Hamann (Camillus, N.Y.) is second in scoring with eight goals and 10 points. Freshman Alison Valerio (Geneva, N.Y.) tops the team in assists with seven and she is also third in points with nine.
Senior Kristen Engel (Plainview, N.Y.) has started all six games in net and has a 14.50 goals-against average, .435 save percentage and 1-5 record.
Binghamton will be playing for its first win of the season after losing its seventh consecutive game with a 16-6 loss to Albany in its home opener March 31. Against MAAC opponent Marist College, the Bears lost 21-5, on March 27.
Three of Binghamton’s top four scorers are seniors with attacker Danielle Edwards leading the team with 12 goals and 14 points. Classmate Heather Grose is second in goals (8) and points (11) while Anna Riordan has a team-leading five assists to go with eight points.
In net, junior Sandra Alvarez has played in six of the Bearcats’ seven games. She has a 16.60 goals-against average, .439 save percentage and 0-5 record. Sophomore CJ Cuneo has seen action in three games and has a 20.0 GAA, .429 save percentage and 0-2 record.
In last year’s meeting, Niagara scored three goals in the final four minutes but it wasn’t enough as Binghamton won 14-12 at Niagara Field. The win improved the Bearcats’ record to 4-0 in the all-time series.
