NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University lacrosse team (1-9-0, 0-5-0) returns to the friendly confines of Niagara Field this weekend when its hosts Iona College (6-6-0, 1-4-0) and Manhattan College (3-10-0, 2-3-0). The Purple Eagles meet the Gaels at 4 p.m. Friday and the Jaspers at noon Sunday.
Niagara has three players with 10-or-more goals and four with 10-or-more points.
Junior Emma-Lee Harrison (Lakefield, Ont.) continues to lead the squad in goals (17) and points (20). In her last outing, the attacker had three goals in a loss at Fairfield University. She currently ranks 10th in career assists (18) and needs four points to take over 10th on the career points list.
Senior Lindsay Hamann (Camillus, N.Y.) also tallied three goals vs. the Stags to give her 12 on the season. She is also second in assists (5) and points (17). On the Niagara career charts, Hamann is currently tied for fifth in goals (75), ninth in assists (19) and points (94).
Sophomore Vanessa Schultz (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) is third in goals (11) and points (14) while freshman Alison Valerio (Geneva, N.Y.) has three goals, a team-best eight assists and 11 points.
In net, senior Kristen Engel (Plainview, N.Y.) has started all 10 games for the Purple Eagles, and has a 15.71 goals-against average and .396 save percentage.
Iona enters the game on a two-game losing streak after falling 12-8 to Siena on April 15. The Gaels are currently tied for sixth in the MAAC with Canisius.
Jaclyn O’Leary is one of two players with over 30 goals and 40 points. She leads the team in goals (37) and points (44) which rank fourth and ninth, respectively in MAAC conference stats. Christie Godlewski has 30 goals, 11 assists and 41 points. Marissa Audley has 18 goals and a squad-best 13 assists for 31 points.
In net, Carlee Street has started the majority of Iona’s games. She has an 11.73 goals-against average, .382 save percentage and 6-6 record.
Manhattan has won once in its last five games but is fifth in the league standings. In their last outing, the Jaspers lost 20-4 to Le Moyne.
Three players have 20-or-more goals and 30-or-more points for Manhattan. Breanna Tinari tops the team in goals (24) and points (32). Jenny Carman has 23 goals, 11 assists, and 34 points while Alicia Psillos has 22 goals, a team-leading 12 assists and 34 points.
In net, Ashley Devins has started 12 games and has a 13.42 goals-against average. 419 save percentage and 3-9 record.
In the all-time series, Niagara leads Iona, 2-0, but trails Manhattan, 8-3. In last year’s games, the Purple Eagles beat the Gaels, 11-7, and lost to the Jaspers, 14-10.
