FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Senior Lindsay Hamann (Camillus, N.Y.) and junior Emma-Lee Harrison (Lakefield, Ont.) each scored three times, but Fairfield University (7-8, 4-1) had too much offense as the Niagara University lacrosse team (1-9, 0-5) lost 20-8 Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Playing against both the Stags and powerful Nor’easter punishing Alumni Field, the Purple Eagles were out shot 45-20 and committed 21 turnovers in the loss.
Fairfield took a 2-0 lead before Niagara got on the scoreboard. Hamann scored her first goal of the game at the 28:05 mark with sophomore Vanessa Schultz (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) picking up the assist.
The Stags then scored the next four goals before Harrison made it 6-2 with a goal at 12:58. Freshman Leigh Downing (Auburn, N.Y.) scored the first of her two goals at 8:48 to cut the lead to 8-3. Harrison’s second goal at 5:20 closed the scoring in the first half with the Purple Eagles trailing, 10-4.
Hamann scored Niagara’s first two goals in the second half at the 26:04 and 20:51 marks. Harrison scored her third goal on a free-position shot at 17:54 and Downing tallied her second at 3:23.
Senior Kristin Engel (Plainview, N.Y.) made 13 saves in the loss.
Niagara returns to action April 20 when it hosts Iona College at 4 p.m. at Niagara Field.
