Lacrosse Drops MAAC Opener at Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Junior Emma-Lee Harrison (Lakefield, Ont.) scored three goals, but it wasn’t enough as the Niagara University lacrosse team (1-4, 0-1) lost its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener, 18-6, to Siena College (2-6, 1-0) Friday at Siena Field.

The Saints took a 2-0 lead before Harrison scored at the 27:12 mark. Senior Lindsay Hamann (Camillus, N.Y.) tied the game at 25:45.

Niagara took its lone lead of the game at 3-2 lead when Harrison registered her second goal at 21:29, but the Saints scored five unanswered goals to take a 7-3 lead.

Harrison made it 7-4 with 8:38 left in the half with her team-leading 10th goal, but Siena scored with 7:18 remaining for an 8-4 lead at halftime.

Siena came out scoring in the second period, tallying the first nine goals to lead 17-4 with 9:17 left in the game.

Freshman Christina Jablonski (Troy, Mich.) recorded the Purple Eagles’ final two goals, scoring at the 7:47 and 3:14 marks. Sophomore Natalie Titerence (Alexandria, Va.) picked up an assist on Jablonski’s final goal.

The Saints scored with seven seconds remaining for the final tally.

Senior Kristen Engel (Plainview, N.Y.) made 13 saves in net.

Niagara returns to action Sunday when it travels to Syracuse to take on Le Moyne College at noon.
