Lacrosse Loses to Albany

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Three Great Danes each registered five points as the University of Albany (4-4) defeated Niagara University (1-3), 19-1, Sunday in a non-conference game at Wagner Alumni Field at Amherst High School.

Christine Grueniger tallied five goals, Brittany Scott four goals and an assist and Kate Fontana had three goals and two assists. Rory Redmond collected two goals and two assists for four points and Sara Spillett registered a pair of goals.

The Purple Eagles lone goal came in the second period when junior Emma-Lee Harrison (Lakefield, Ont.) scored unassisted at the 1:27 mark.

The Great Danes held a 14-0 lead at halftime and out-shot Niagara, 38-6.

In net, Niagara’s Kristen Engel (Plainview, N.Y.) made 11 saves while Albany’s Jen Daly got the win, making four saves in the first half. Katie Neer allowed a goal in the second half.

The Purple Eagles return to action March 30 when they travel to Loudonville, N.Y., for their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener vs. Siena College at 4 p.m.
