Lacrosse Hosts Albany Sunday

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Fresh off its first win of the season, the Niagara University lacrosse team (1-2) concludes its four-game home stand with a 1 p.m. game Sunday vs. the University of Albany (3-4) at Amherst High School.

The Purple Eagles defeat St. Francis (Pa.) 12-2 on March 18 to pick up their first win of the season. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak.

Freshman Alison Valerio (Geneva, N.Y.) leads the scoring in points with two goals and a team-leading seven assists for nine points. Junior Emma-Lee Harrison (Lakefield, Ont.) and senior Lindsay Hamann (Camillus, N.Y.) both have six goals and two assists for eight points.

In net, senior Kristen Engel (Plainview, N.Y.) has started all three games and has an 11.33 goals-against average and .485 save percentage.

Albany enters Sunday’s game on a winning note after beating Le Moyne College, 11-5, Wednesday. Of the Great Danes’ four losses, two have been to No. 15 Syracuse and No. 19 Vanderbilt.

Sarah Spillett leads the team offensively with 12 points on 10 goal and two assists. Kayla Best has a team-leading 11 goals and Jane Bush tops the squad in assists with three.

In net, Jen Daly has played in six games and sports a 12.04 goals-against average, .415 save percentage and 3-4 record.

Niagara is 0-4 vs. Albany all-time. The teams last met in 2001 with the Great Danes winning 10-6 at home.
