BALTIMORE, Md. – Junior Pat Garvey (Pine Bush, N.Y.) broke two school records Thursday on the first day of the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship at Loyola College.
Garvey broke Jeff Scranton’s 1998 50 free record when he swam a 21.44 as the lead-off leg for the 200 free relay. He also broke his own 200 IM record when he placed fourth in 1:55.52.
Freshman Ashley Clingersmith (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) placed fourth in the 50 free in a season-best 24.78. Junior James Polito (Reading, Pa.) finished sixth in the men’s 50 free with a season-best 21.84.
Sophomore Zak Brown (Bakersfield, Calif.) posted a season-best 4:51.89 to finish eighth in the 500 free.
Niagara had season bests in four relays. Both the men’s (1:26.27) and women’s (1:42.29) 200 free relay teams placed fifth, while the women’s 400 medley relay team placed fifth in 4:08.85 and the men finished seventh in 3:39.05.
Competition at the Loyola Fitness and Aquatic Center continues at 10 a.m. Friday.
