NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams compete in the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship Thursday through Saturday on the campus of Loyola College in Baltimore, Md. The competition begins with qualifying heats at 10 a.m., followed by the finals at 6 p.m. each day in the Loyola Fitness and Aquatic Center.

Last year, the Niagara men’s team finished sixth in the eight-team field and the women finished sixth among 10 teams. Marist College is the defending men’s and women’s MAAC champion.

Junior Pat Garvey (Pine Bush, N.Y.) broke three school records in last year’s championship. This year, a conference title and NCAA qualifying times are the goals.

Sophomore Allison Carr (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Wheatfield) also had a very successful 2006 MAAC Championship as she broke her own 200 breaststroke record with a 2:28.79.

The Purple Eagle men’s team won the 1994 MAAC Championship while the women’s best finish was second in 1993 and 1992.
