Scoring Balance Powers Men’s Basketball Past Saint Peter’s

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University men’s basketball team got four players in double figures to win its third-straight game, downing Saint Peter’s (3-10, 1-2) 88-55 Wednesday night in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Gallagher Center. The win, Niagara’s sixth in its last seven games, improves the Purple Eagles’ record to 7-7 overall and 2-1 in the MAAC.

Junior forward Charron Fisher (Pennsauken, N.J.) led the Purple Eagles with 23 points while seniors J.R. Duffey (Fort Worth, Texas) and Lorenzo Miles (Washington, D.C.) each added 16 points. Both Miles and Duffey hit four three-point field goals in the contest. Senior forward Clif Brown (Ferndale, Mich.) recorded his third consecutive double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Saint Peter’s was led by Tim Spitler’s 15 points. Akeem Gooding and Brandon Brock each added 10 points while Gooding had a game-best 11 rebounds.

The Purple Eagles opened the game with a 22-6 run and never looked back behind eight points by Duffey. Brown and Fisher combined for 11 more points during that run. Niagara, which made seven three-point field goals in the first half, took a 47-26 lead at the half.

Niagara scored 88 points for the second-straight game while the Purple Eagles had season highs in three-pointers (12), three-point field goal percentage (54.5, 12 of 22), field goals (31) and field-goal percentage (55.4, 31 of 56).

The Purple Eagles continues its three-game home stand, hosting Siena College at 7 p.m. Friday at the Gallagher Center. The game will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable.
