Women’s Swimming Team Defeats Siena, 130-106

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University women’s swimming and diving team (4-5,4-2) defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival Siena College, (1-6, 1-3) 130-106, Saturday afternoon at the Oxy Aquatic Center. The Purple Eagles won eight out of the 13 events.

Niagara was lead by two double winners, freshmen Ashley Clingersmith, (Niagara Falls, N.Y./ Niagara Falls High School) and Dana Vernal (Milford, Conn.). Clingersmith won the 50 and 100 free events, and Vernal won the 200 free and 100 butterfly.

Niagara split the diving events, with freshman Amanda Summers, (Alden, N.Y.) winning the three- meter event with 165.30 points.

The women’s swim team returns to action Jan. 23 when it travels to St. Bonaventure.
