BALTIMORE – Niagara University sophomore Pat Garvey (Pine Bush, N.Y.) just missed his second school record of the weekend Friday in day two of the 2006 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship in the Loyola Fitness and Aquatic Center at Loyola College.
Garvey swam a 51.54 in the 100 butterfly, 1/100th of a second shy of his school record 51.53 set at last year’s championship. Garvey finished third for the second consecutive season in the event.
In the team standings, the Purple Eagle men’s team dropped to fifth place with 223 points, and the women remained in sixth with 189 points. The men’s squad trails Iona College by 31 points.
"We swam good today, but Iona swam great," Niagara swimming and diving head coach Peter Thompson said. "It will take a lot tomorrow to overcome Iona."
Freshman Allison Carr (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) placed third in the 100 breaststroke in a personal-best 1:06.71.
Junior Dave Germain (Oswego, N.Y.) finished in fourth place in three-meter diving, scoring a career-high 375.35 points.
Freshman Hope Wile (Baltimore, Md.) swam a 10:50.36 in the 1000 free to place eighth, and classmate Zak Brown (Bakersfield, Calif.) was eighth in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.71.
