NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Juniors Lorenzo Miles (Washington, D.C.), Clif Brown (Ferndale, Mich.) and J.R. Duffey (Fort Worth, Texas) combined for 73 points as Niagara University (10-13, 7-8) recorded an 88-82 win over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Marist College (15-8, 9-6) Saturday afternoon in men’s basketball action at the Gallagher Center.
Miles, who tied his career high with five three-pointers, had a team-high 27 points. Brown registered his fifth career double-double and fourth consecutive 20-plus point game with a career-high 26 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Duffey registered his third career 20-point game, scoring 20.
The Purple Eagles closed the half with an 8-2 run over the final 3:56 to take a 37-31 halftime lead. Miles and Brown each had three-pointers during that run.
Niagara opened the second half with a 20-6 run as Duffey and Brown scored eight points each.
The Purple Eagles had on to a 20-point lead at the eight-minute when Brown sank one of his career-high 11 free throws.
Marist moved into desperation mood then, outscoring the Purple Eagles 33-19 the rest of the game. The Red Foxes connected on seven of their 13 three-pointers. Jared Jordan scored 16 of his game-high 31 points, and Will Whittington added 14 of his 17 points during the stretch. Niagara sank 19 of 24 from the foul line to win their second-straight game and third consecutive in the Gallagher Center.
Sophomore Stanley Hodge (Washington, D.C.) dished out a game-high eight assists and Brown collected a personal-best five steals.
Niagara returns to action when it hosts Manhattan College at 7 p.m. in the Gallagher Center on Monday. It is the final home game of the season for the Purple Eagles.
