NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University men’s and women’s (0-1) swimming and diving teams return to action when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., to take on Duquesne University at 4 p.m. Friday in Towers Pool.
For the Purple Eagle men’s squad, the Dukes will be their first opponent of the season. On the women’s side, Niagara is looking for its first win after losing 171-120 to Vermont Oct. 22.
Sophomores Allison Carr (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) recorded Niagara’s lone victory in the Vermont meet, winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.47. Carr also finished second in the 200 breast in 2:34.34, and was a member of the second-place 400 medley relay team.
The Dukes enter the meet 1-0 on both sides as the men’s team beat St. Bonaventure, 115-90, and the women won, 105-100, on Oct. 20.
Last year, the Purple Eagle men lost to the Dukes, 170-57, and the women fell, 129-93. On the men’s side, junior Pat Garvey (Pine Bush, N.Y.) won the 200 IM and the 100 fly while sophomores Joe Moeller (Bethel Park, Pa.) and Zak Brown (Bakersfield, Calif.) won the 200 free and 500 free, respectively.
For the women, Carr and Hope Wiles (Baltimore, Md.) finished second in the 100 breaststroke and 1,650 free, respectively.
