Let’s Drop the Puck
After playing its first two games on the road, Niagara moves closer to home when it hosts Colgate University Thursday. The puck drops at 7 p.m. in Blue Cross Arena.
The Purple Eagles enter the game 1-1-0 on the season after falling at No. 20 Clarkson Oct. 6 and then beating St. Lawrence Oct. 7. Colgate stands at 0-2-0 after losing 6-0 to Vermont and 3-2 to No. 9 Denver at the Ice Breaker Tournament at Miami (Ohio) this past weekend.

Junior Matt Caruana’s goal with just over five minutes remaining helped Niagara win its first game of the season with a 4-3 victory at St. Lawrence University Oct. 7. Sophomore Ted Cook collected a pair of power-play goals and senior Sean Bentivoglio had three assists in the game. Sophomore Juliano Pagliero made 38 saves in the win.

Colgate will be playing for its first win of the season after dropping a pair of games at the Ice Breaker Tournament in Miami (Ohio). The losses dropped the previously 14th-ranked Raiders out of the USCHO.com/CSTV Division I Men’s and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men’s College Hockey Polls.
The Raiders are led by forward Tyler Burton, who has two goals on the season. David McIntyre, Nick St. Pierre and Jesse Winchester all have assists for the Raiders. In net, junior Mark Dekanich started both games this past week, posting a 4.80 goals-against average and .850 save percentage. Rookie Charles Long played just six minutes and made five saves.
The Series - Colgate, 3-2-1
Niagara and Colgate renew their rivalry Thursday after last playing on Jan. 3 2003, at Dwyer Arena with the teams skated to a 2-2 tie. The Purple Eagles and the Raiders split the first four games in the series, including three games played at the Syracuse Invitational. Since then, Colgate won in Hamilton and the teams tied in the last outing.
