Fisher Nets Fourth Double-Double of the Year in Loyola Loss


Sophomore Charron Fisher scored a team-high 22 points in a loss at Loyola Friday night.

BALTIMORE – Sophomore Charron Fisher (Pennsauken, N.J.) registered his fourth career double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds as the Niagara University men’s basketball team (3-8, 0-3) dropped an 82-70 game at Loyola College (8-2, 2-1) Friday night in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.

Fisher was 6 of 19 from the field, including 2 of 8 from three-point range, and 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. His 22-point performance was his fourth 20-plus point game of the season and second consecutive.

Also in double digits in scoring for the Purple Eagles were junior Lorenzo Miles (Washington, D.C.) with 11 points and a team-high six assists and classmate J.R. Duffey (Ft. Worth, Texas) with 10 points.

Niagara, which never led in the game, was as close as five points with under seven minutes left in the game. The Purple Eagles trailed 63-50 when it went on an 11-2 run. Junior Barry Durosier (Orlando, Fla.) collected four of his nine points in the stretch and Fisher capped the run with a pair of free throws.

Loyola answered with a 9-2 run with under five minutes to play. Michael Tuck, who had a career-high 22 points, had back-to-back layups and Maryland transfer Hassan Fofone gave the Greyhounds a 74-62 lead on a traditional three-point play with 1:45 left in the game.

The Purple Eagles pulled within eight points, 75-69, on two free throws by Duffey, but Loyola connected on 7 of 8 from the foul line for the win.

Maryland transfer Andre Collins lived up to his billing as the country’s second-leading scorer, tallying a game-high 28 points, including four three-pointers. The guard was the difference for the Greyhounds at the start of the second half. Collins scored all 16 of Loyola’s points in a 16-4 run to open the period and gave it its largest lead of the game, 52-35.

In the first half, Niagara trailed by nine points, 30-21, before finishing the half with an 11-6 run capped by four points from junior Clif Brown (Ferndale, Mich.).

Niagara returns to action Sunday when it plays Iona College at 2 p.m. in the Haynes Athletic Center in New Rochelle, N.Y.
