Carr Breaks School Record in a Victory over Siena

School-record holder Allison Carr

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman Allison Carr (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) broke the Niagara University school record in the 200 breaststroke to help it defeat Siena College, 179-98, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s swimming meet at the Siena Swim Center Saturday afternoon. The Purple Eagles are now 5-6 overall and 4-3 in the league.

Carr swam a 2:29.36 to win the event and break Stacy Saracene’s mark of 2:31.71 set in 1998. Carr also won the 100 breaststroke, setting the pool record of 1:07.87.

The Purple Eagles placed first in 11 of the 18 events and in addition of Carr, freshman Hope Wiles (Baltimore, Md.) and senior Emily Zimdahl (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) were double winners.

Wiles won the 1000 free in 11:19.82 and the 500 free in 5:26.70. For the second-straight meet, Zimdahl won both the one- and three-meter diving events. She scored a season-best 212.30 on the one meter and a personal-best on the three-meter (224.80).

Also winning their events were sophomore Mariah Glass (Oswego, N.Y.) with a personal-best 2:02.29 in the 200 free, senior Jody Pangburn (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca East) with a season-best 2:24.91 in the 200 butterfly, senior Kelly Kennedy (York, N.Y.) in the 50 free (25.67), and the 400 free relay team of freshman Jessica Bancroft-Billings (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls), Pangburn, Glass and Kennedy (1:44.29).
