Mendez, Cruz, Brooks Play Final Game in the Gallagher Center

Senior David Brooks and classmates Alvin Cruz and Juan Mendez play their final regular-season home game Wednesday.

NIAGARA UN., N.Y. -- Excitement will be swirling in the legendary Gallagher Center Wednesday when the Niagara University men’s basketball team (16-7, 11-4) plays its final regular-season home game of the year, facing cross-town rival Canisius (8-15, 6-8) at 7 p.m. in front of a sellout crowd.

The Purple Eagles enter the contest with the eighth-longest home winning streak in the country and undefeated at 12-0 in the Purple Palace.

Niagara won its seventh game in eight outings with a 78-74 victory at Fairfield on Feb. 12. The win kept it in first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings.

Canisius comes into the bragging-right’s game on a losing note. The Golden Griffins lost in overtime, 81-74, at Rider on Feb. 13.

The game will be televised tape delay on Adelphia Cable Channel 13 and can seen Thursday at 9 p.m. and Saturday at noon and 7:30 p.m. The game can also be heard live on WJJL (1440 AM) or on Niagara University’s official athletic website at www.PurpleEagles.com.
