Fisher Scores 19 in Loss at Notre Dame


Sophomore Charron Fisher scored a game-high 19 points in a loss at Notre Dame.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. –  Sophomore Charron Fisher (Pennsauken, N.J.) scored a game-high 19 points but it wasn’t enough as the Niagara University men’s basketball team (2-6) dropped an 80-59 non-conference game to the University of Notre Dame (6-2) in front of 8,053 fans in the Joyce Center.

Joining Fisher in double figures were senior James Mathis (Newark, N.J.) and junior Lorenzo Miles (Washington, D.C.). Mathis finished with 12 points, six rebounds and a career-high seven steals. Miles netted 10 points. Junior J.R. Duffey (Fort Worth, Texas) had a team-high nine rebounds and classmate Barry Durosier (Orlando, Fla.) dished out a game- and career-high six assists.

Niagara cut Notre Dame's lead to 42-41 when James Mathis scored inside less than five minutes into the second half.

Niagara which trailed by only six at halftime, 37-31, opened the second with a 10-5 run to make it a one-point game, 42-41, with 15:31 left. Fisher scored six points of his 10 second-half points during the stretch.

Notre Dame took a nine-point lead on one of Kyle McAlarney’s four three-pointers and then ran away with the game, outscoring the Purple Eagles 23-15. They made just 2 of 17 shots over the next 10 minutes as the Irish took control with a 22-7 run.

Niagara returns to action Dec. 30 when it meets Appalachian State at 8:30 p.m. in the Duquesne Holiday Tournament in Pittsburgh, Pa.
