NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University women’s lacrosse team (8-5, 3-3) dropped its final game of the regular season, 11-7, to Marist College (7-9, 3-3) Sunday afternoon. Marist senior Katie Tutak scored four goals to help snap Niagara’s five-game home-winning streak dating back to April 23, 2003.

Marist started strong, scoring six of the game’s first seven goals.  At the 8:30 mark, Niagara junior Ashley Baker (Henrietta, N.Y.) scored her second goal of the game before assisting on junior Rachel Jones’ (Tonawanda, N.Y.) goal just 39 seconds later. Marist notched the half’s final two goals at 6:33 and 0:55 to take the 8-3 halftime lead.

The Purple Eagles came back to within three after scoring two goals in the first two minutes of the second half, but were held scoreless for the next 24:19. Meanwhile Marist junior Christine Connell and Tutak each registered an unassisted goal.

Niagara’s Jones and freshman Lindsay Hamann (Camillus, N.Y.) scored at 3:34 and 2:00, respectively, but Marist’s defense held off all other attacks before Marist senior Maria Reoch scored the game’s final goal with just four seconds remaining.

Both Marist goalie, junior Heather Ripp, and Niagara goalie, junior Michelle Nucci (Plainview, N.Y.), finished the game with eight saves.
