NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University men’s soccer team lost to Binghamton 3-0 Wednesday in a contest played on the Binghamton campus.
Unlucky from the beginning of the game, with junior midfielder Simon Adair (Oakville, Ont.) hitting the post in the first two minutes of the game, Niagara (0-5-1) had problems creating chances throughout the match, according to head coach Dermot McGrane.
"We were outplayed tonight by Binghamton," McGrane said. "Aside from the three shots that hit the woodwork, we really didn't create any kind of offense."
Adair had the best scoring opportunities in the contest for the Purple Eagles, hitting the cross bar, as well as both posts on four shot attempts. Niagara was out shot in the game, 19-7.
Even at 0-0 at halftime, Binghamton (5-2-1) capitalized on its scoring opportunities in the second half with their first goal scored in the 67th minute. Midfielder Charles Darkwah took a pass from Bryan Arnault and finished it past Niagara junior goalkeeper Dan O’Shea (East Syracuse, N.Y.).
Binghamton forward Dan Blank scored in the 76th minute, with Darkwah adding his second goal of the contest in the 88th minute. Arnault contributed with two assists for the Bearcats.
Binghamton goalkeeper Stefan Gonet, who made two saves in the game, earned his sixth shutout of the season. O’Shea had six saves in his fourth appearance of the season for the Purple Eagles.
Niagara will host Pittsburgh Oct. 1. The game is set for 4 p.m. at Niagara Field. Admission is free.
