SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Amanda Daniels (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning West) scored four goals to lead Le Moyne to a 10-8 win over Niagara in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse game at the Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins (10-4, 5-1 MAAC) have won 10 of their last 11 games and enter next Friday’s MAAC tournament as the No. 2 seed.
Le Moyne scored the first five goals of the game and led 10-3 early in the opening half, but Niagara scored the final five goals of the game to pull within a pair of goals with 2:33 remaining.
Tara Walberger (Tully, N.Y./Tully), Daniels, Ashlyn Maguire (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) and Liz Hewitt (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) netted goals in the first 18 minutes of the contest as the Dolphins jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Ashley Grosso (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) halted the Le Moyne run with Niagara’s first goal. The Purple Eagles and Le Moyne scored twice each in the final minutes as the Dolphins took an 8-3 lead into the intermission.
Daniels netted her fourth goal of the game two minutes and 45 seconds into the second half and Caitlin Lowie (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) put Le Moyne up 10-3 before Niagara went on its 5-0 run.
Ashley Baker (West Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) scored a goal and Sandra Gallegos (Clarkston, Mich./Clarence) and Rachel Jones (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) tallied twice to pull the Purple Eagles within striking distance.
Le Moyne goalkeeper Brandy Payne (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and Niagara netminder Michelle Nucci (Plainview, N.Y./Bethpage) made 13 saves each. Payne turned aside eight shots in the opening half in which she allowed just three goals.
The Dolphins will gain rematch with Niagara in the semifinals of the conference tournament on Friday at Marist.
