Niagara Men's Basketball Defeats St. Peter's, 89-75

Niagara University, NY- The Niagara University's men's basketball team beat St. Peter's 89-75 at the Gallagher Center before a crowd of 1,399. The Purple Eagles improve to 7-8 overall (3-3 MAAC) while the Peacocks fall to 5-8 (2-3 MAAC).

Niagara led 15-points in the final three minutes of the first-half. Tremmell Darden scored 13 points in the first half. James Reaves grabbed five first-half rebounds on his way for nine in the game.

Two Niagara players scored over 20 points. Juan Mendez netted 28 and Tremmell scored 21. Alvin Cruz had eight assists. Reaves had 10 shots from the foul line scoring six of them.

"This was a win we had to have," said Head Coach John Mihalich. "It was a key win. They are the most improved team in the league. A legit contender."

One reason St. Peter's is a legit contender is because of freshman Keydren Clark. He came into the game as the leading scorer in the MAAC and third overall. Clark scored 24 points for St. Peter's including going 6-for-6 at the free throw line.

Niagara will have eight days off before meeting St. Peter's again on January 24th. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
