Niagara University, NY- The Niagara University's men's basketball team lost to the Siena Saints 78-73 at the Gallagher Center before a crowd of 1,218. Niagara falls to 6-8 overall (2-3 MAAC) while Siena improved to 10-4 (4-1 MAAC).
The Purple Eagles were led in scoring by Juan Mendez who put in 21 points. Tremmell Darden netted 17 points. Darden made the most impressive play of the night when he stole the ball from Antoine Jordan and put home a slam dunk to put Niagara up by one. But Darden didn't stop there. He stole the ball seven-seconds later and made a lay-up bringing the crowd to its feet.
The Saints were led in scoring by Prosper Karangwa who had 22 points including eight rebounds. Three other Siena players made it into the double digits for the night including 13 by Michael Haddix and 12 by Tommy Mitchell and Brent Sniezyk
Siena was impressive at the free-throw line putting away going 13-for-14 (92.9%). Karangwa hit all three of his throws while Haddix made 5-of-6. Antoine Jordan and Justin Miller also were perfect at the line.
Niagara will host Saint Peter's on January 16th. Game time is set for 7:00pm. Siena will travel onto Canisus where they will take on the Golden Griffins
