Niagara University, NY - Niagara baseball secured the series victory against Marist with an 8-3 victory Saturday afternoon at Bobo Field.
The Purple Eagles improved to 15-15, 11-6 MAAC, while the Red Foxes fell to 14-22, 13-7 MAAC.
Marist jumped out to an early lead, capitalizing in the top of the first as Nathan Lincoln singled to right field to plate AJ Brotz.
The lead did not last long however as Niagara knotted things up at one in the bottom of the frame. Jacob Brooks came home on a groundout from Elijha Hammill.
Luke Glenn came in for relief of Purple Eagles starter Carter Fink in the middle of the second as Fink ended his day with one run on two hits and two strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work.
After two scoreless innings Niagara pounced in the bottom of the fourth plating three runs. Rees Kozar got things started with an RBI single that allowed Hammill to score, Konings then scored on a groundout from Nick Cote. Jason Green capped off the inning with a single through the right side which allowed Kozar to come home for a 4-1 lead.
The Purple Eagles got to work in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four times. Konings singled to right field, which drove home Shawn Cameron, before Curtis McKay added an RBI single through the left side to plate Brooks. Hammill and Konings both scored on bases loaded walks to move the lead to 8-1.
Eddie Dolansky came in for Niagara to start the seventh, relieving Glenn who threw 4.1 one hit innings, punching out two batters
Marist got back on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh due to a Purple Eagles wild pitch.Â
The Red Foxes scored on an error from Niagara in the top of the eighth which led Niagara to call on Andrew Damiani to close out the game.
