Niagara University, NY - Niagara opened the three-game MAAC series against Saint Peter's with a 10-6 victory Friday afternoon at Bobo Field.
The Purple Eagles improved to 14-15, 10-6 MAAC, while the Red Foxes fell 14-21, 13-6 MAAC.
After a scoreless inning from Niagara starter Rebuen Malamed the Purple Eagles wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the frame. Noah Konings ripped a ground rule double to left center that plated Jacob Brooks.
Marist knotted things up at one in the top of the second with a single for Chris Diaz that plated Kyle Pollack.
Niagara regained the lead in the bottom of the frame, plating three runs. Brooks got things started with a sacrifice fly that scored Jason Green. Elijha Hammill followed that up with a two-run homer 375 feet over the left field wall to extend the lead to 4-1.
The Red Foxes answered back in the third with a solo homer of their own off the bat of AJ Brotz. Niagara responded in the bottom of the frame once again as Rees Kozar scored on a Matthew Ganschow fielder's choice. Shawn Cameron followed that up with a single to right field that plated Nick Cote.
McKay kept the Purple Eagles' scoring streak alive in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single through the left side to bring home Konings.
Malamed's day was done after four innings, allowing two runs on six hits and one strikeout. Hayden Morrison came in for relief with two baserunners on.
Niagara scored for the fifth consecutive inning to push the lead to 8-2 after Brooks singled to left field and Green beat out the throw at home.
The Purple Eagles kept the runs coming in the sixth as Cote stole second which allowed Kozar to come home and extend the lead to 9-2.
Marist plated two runs in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run from Diaz to cut the lead to 9-4. Hammill doubled to left field in the bottom of the frame to plate Ganschow and restore a six run lead.
Jack Dickinson came into the game for Morrison in the top of the eighth. Morrison's day closed with two runs on two hits in three innings of work with two strikeouts.
Marist tried to mount a comeback in the top of the ninth with Diaz's second homer of the day and a sac fly from Nathan Lincoln, but Dickinson held on for the save.
