Tampa, Fl. - Women's lacrosse opened their season Saturday afternoon falling to USF 20-5 in non-conference action.
The Purple Eagles start the season 0-1, while the Bulls open up 1-0.
The first quarter was all USF with the Bulls scoring six times in the opening frame. Elle Grissett and Ava Uphues both found the back of the net twice, while Kaitlyn Tartaglione and Kalina Johnson both scored once.
The start of the second quarter was much of the same with the Bulls scoring four more times to grow their lead to 10-0. Grissett completed her hat trick, while Sofia Chepenik scored twice and Julia Huxtable beat Haley Terry once.
Michaela Delles broke through for the Purple Eagles with 8:07 left in the second quarter. Maddy Gill picked up her first assist of the season.
Jena Binkis restored the USF 10 goal lead, but Maive Partlow and Gill scored back-to-back to give Niagara some life.
Tartaglione wrapped up the Bulls scoring in the first half, while Olivia Ng found the back of the net with 11 seconds remaining in the half to make it a 12-4 USF lead.
Gill recorded her second of the game to start the third quarter with an assist from Hannah Kent.Â
It was all USF the rest of the way scoring eight unanswered goals to wrap up the contest.
