Women's Lacrosse Falls in Home Opener Against Colgate

Niagara University, NY - Women's Lacrosse had their home opener against Colgate Saturday afternoon, falling 16-10 at Niagara Field in non-conference action.

The Purple Eagles fell to 0-2, while the Raiders improved to 2-0 on the young season.

Colgate got out to an early lead scoring four straight to begin the first quarter with Aubrey McMahon finding the back of the net twice.

Michaela Delles opened the scoring for Niagara with 4:13 left in the first, beating Raiders goalkeeper Maddie Stevens on a free-position attempt.

Colgate responded with two more goals in the quarter, but Olivia Ng got the Purple Eagle on the board once again with just under a minute remaining in the quarter to make it a 6-2 game heading into the second frame.

Once again the Raiders started the quarter with four straight goals with McMahon completing her hat trick. Maddy Gill found the back of the net with 5:45 remaining in the second giving Niagara their third goal of the contest.

The Raiders responded with two more goals before the end of the first half giving them a 12-3 advantage into the break.

Out of halftime Colgate scored 1:30 into the quarter, but the Purple Eagles responded with two goals of their own starting with Avery Olschefskie, followed by a man-up goal for Bianca McGrayne.

Colgate added three more before the end of the third quarter to give them a 16-5 lead heading into the final frame.

Niagara found their rhythm in the fourth scoring five times and not surrendering a goal. Abby Penfield came in for relief of Purple Eagles starting goaltender Haley Terry.

Gill got things going in the fourth with her second goal of the game just 35 seconds into the quarter. Olschefskie followed that up with her second goal of the contest on a man-up opportunity.

Gill completed her hat trick with 8:02 remaining, while Kensington Keane added two late goals, the latter of which being assisted by Hannah Kent to make it a 16-10 final.
